Lennon, Hendrix guitars to go under the hammer.
Rare concert posters, autographs and personally-owned instruments like guitars of Jimi Hendrix and Beatle John Lennon will feature in Christie’s homage sale to the idols of rock and pop here on Monday. Lennon’s 1958 Hofner Senator guitar, accompanied by a facsimile copy of a letter from fellow Beatle George Harrison which states that this was one of the band frontman’s earliest guitars is estimated at £1,00,00-1,50,000.
A Harmony Stratotone guitar owned and played by Brian Jones, founder member of the Rolling Stones, and used in early recordings will also be on sale with an estimate of £30,000-50,000.
Jimi Hendrix’s 1970 Fender Stratocaster is estimated £70,000-90,000. This sale will bring together greats from the past 50 years of rock ‘n’ roll.
Other important memorabilia include an original photograph of Paul McCartney in the “scholarship class” at the Joseph William Primary School (£2,000-3,000). And a rare set of Lennon annotated song sheets for the album Imagine, (£8,000-10,000). — PTI
