While a red sky at sunset usually means a dry and pleasant day will follow, a red sky in the morning is usually followed by wet and windy weather. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Monday morning was a little brighter for early risers who witnessed a stunning red and orange sunrise today. 

 

Instagram and Twitter feeds were flooded with incredible images of the dramatic sunrise this morning. 

 

The Port of London authority posted a spectacular photo of orange-filled clouds reflecting off the Thames just after 7am. 

 

“A red sky appears when dust and small particles are trapped in the atmosphere by high pressure,” the Met Office explains.  

 

“This scatters blue light and leaving only red light to give the sky its notable appearance.”
