Most likely, sometime next year, this announcement will appear in your news feed, and it will not happen because of Russia or the USA. It will happen because we have become an arrogant, a war-justifying and a futile generation that is indifferent to injustice and human suffering.
My generation, including myself, is an arrogant breed. Every year we witnessed children being pulled dead or alive from the rubble, yet not a single public protest took place, not even a single anti-war banner in front of the Russian or the American embassies. They are children and innocent beings, who are desperate for our voice and support on our public streets, something that our previous generations did every time a war occurred. Nevertheless, due to our absent compassion and humanity, my generation has shifted from the concerted will imposing generation, through protests, into a collective consuming generation of vested interests of Washington or Moscow. You might disagree with me and argue that we are a compassionate generation that cares. However, you could please answer the following simple question, when did we build walls to prevent homeless and hopeless refugees from entering our countries? Can you name at least one? It happened to us, and again my generation did not protest.
Syrian children are being bombed today because of us, and our failure to switch into local renewable-energy resources. This war is fought over to determine who will get to supply us with natural gas in the future. Russia does not want the new gas pipeline from Qatar to run through Syria and Allied Forces want this at any cost, to free Europe from its energetic gas dependency from Moscow. They are being bombed and made homeless, because of us and when they reach the first EU country, what do our politicians, elected by my generation, do? They build walls and return them to Turkey, which clearly demonstrates how deeply in-compassionate my generation has become. We could have, at least, expressed our revulsion on our streets.
Besides, not protesting against the war, my generation is engaged defending the war in Syria and its perpetrators. Instead of blaming both Moscow and Washington for igniting this atrocious war, we are active defending Kremlin or White House for causing havoc in Syria. Putin followers attack Obama and Obama followers attack Putin, whereas the truth is that are equally responsible for this war and the deaths of Syrian children. Instead of condemning both aggressors, my generation is busy justifying the war and its preferred perpetrator.
My generation is busy defending war criminals and glorifying either Russia or the USA, whereby the country that gravitates more foreign migrants is the best indicator which one of the two is greater. Regardless of generation’s split on which war criminal to justify, Putin or Obama, world leaders can be judged only by how many people migrate towards their country, or in other words, do more people seek asylum in Russia or the countries of Allied Forces? Being British, I pride myself on the number of migrants who choose to live in Britain. Besides showing that our country is doing great, more migrants, means more pubs, corner shops, roads and buildings, generating more jobs. Regrettably, my generation’s slight majority said no to EU migrants, and they will be the ones who shall suffer most. Less migration means, less work for tabloid readers employed in the construction industry because buildings are erected for people, and with the decreasing number of individuals living in the UK, fewer buildings will be built. This is how futile my generation is.
Another reason, why my generation is futile, is because we allow our politicians to think that we are children. In the past, politicians treated their constituents with respect. However, our politicians have evolved and treat us like children, despite our age. You know the nasty questions that children ask, such as: “Mum, where do babies come from?” Instead of answering honestly, parents tend to remove the embarrassing details and provide a distorted explanation of how babies are made.
In a similar fashion, when asked why we are bombing Syria, our politicians, remove the embarrassing details, concealing the actual cause. Instead of telling us the truth, such as we need to take out Assad, because he did not allow the new Qatar gas pipeline to run through Syria, which would ultimately destroy Russia, the White House informs us that Assad needs to go because his people do no longer want him to run their country. The best indicator of people’s discontent with their leaders is the number of refugees fleeing their country. So, please tell me, how many Syrians fled their country before the war?
On the other hand, the Kremlin is not much better and treats my generation like children, too. Instead of saying that the reason behind our military action in Syria is to prevent the construction of the new Qatar gas pipeline in Syria that would destroy Russian economy, Kremlin brings on the election legitimacy and the international law.
It seems that my generation does not mind being treated like children. Our politicians think of my generation as adults who have an intelligence of a 5-year-old child, who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way. I believe that the medical term for the way our politicians perceive my generation is idiots. I doubt that we are idiots, but it is almost certain that my generation does not mind being treated this way by our politicians, who continue to deceive us.
You might disagree, but that doesn’t matter much. Our politicians see us as children and what matters is the fact that they do not have a problem with bombing children.
