Rimini is a popular seaside resort on the Adriatic coast with fine sand beaches, historic sights, and lots of nightlife.
Rimini is a city in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy and capital city of the Province of Rimini. It is located on the Adriatic Sea, near the coast between the rivers Marecchia (the ancient Ariminus) and Ausa (Aprusa). Coast navigation and fishing are traditional industries and, together with Riccione, it is probably the most famous seaside resort on the Adriatic Riviera.
The Summer months in Rimini are always popular, when tourism peaks and more than 100 nightclubs and discos are on offer, which are never far from the Piazza Tre Martiri or the Piazza Cavour, the city's main public squares. Many tourists holidaying in Rimini are from Italy and travel from far afield to enjoy a fun-filled weekend getaway, beach-based activities and nocturnal entertainment.
One of the main tourist attractions for visitors to Rimini is the Republic of San Marino, just 26 km / 16 miles away. This tiny independent State has its own currency, postage stamps and army. As well as the novelty factor in visiting the oldest republic in the world, there are a number of interesting landmarks and historical attractions, which can be easily viewed on foot by visitors.Along the coast from Rimini is the ancient town of Ravenna. With eight of its churches classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites, this is the perfect place for history-lovers to indulge in some sightseeing. Ravenna's most notable attractions include the Basilica di San Vitale, the town's Cathedral, Dante's Tomb and several museums.
