Mykonos
The beaches of Mykonos are among Greece’s most famous, the most popular being located close to the island’s capital. The southern coast is sheltered from the wind and has good sand, with Ornos being a very beautiful and popular beach in the area.
Mykonos is a cosmopolitan destination, considered one of the greatest tourist meccas in the world. Both Mykonos and Santorini are the most popular holiday in the Greek Islands, which means that prices are higher than on neighboring islands. Added to this, popularity also means there are many attractions in Mykonos which are catered to tourists, such as English-style breakfasts or nightclubs with loud music. Nightlife in Mykonos is very hectic.
The beaches of Mykonos are among Greece’s most famous, the most popular being located close to the island’s capital. The southern coast is sheltered from the wind and has good sand, with Ornos being a very beautiful and popular beach in the area. Stephanos is a quiet beach in the north, where you can also find the peaceful Kalafati and Houlakia beaches, with their crystalline waters. The most beautiful beaches are, among others, Plati Yalos and Psarou.
Mykonos is one of the top destinations in Europe and promotes a “gay-friendly” atmosphere. Thus, in addition to the nudist Paradise beach you can also find beaches like Elia and Super Paradise, where gay tourists often gather. The main gay beach, nevertheless, is a very small sandy area located between Agrari and Elia.
When taking a break from the beach, many choose to wander around the capital city with maze-like streets and a picturesque landscape that you have probably already seen in photographs: white houses with narrow passages, surrounded by a very active nightlife. The favorite area for taking a drink on a terrace with friends, family or your loved one is known as “Little Venice”, as it seems to be built on the sea. The Panagia Paraportiani Church, the windmills and the Pelican Hotel are Mykonos symbols, as well as unavoidable tours.
The most popular day trip is to visit the archaeological treasures of Delos, a nearby uninhabited island, which is UNESCO’s World Heritage.
