Tuition fees: a bonanza for the 1%
In England, what had recently come from the public purse has been almost entirely replaced by private debt through fees and loans. Our universities have been privatised. We were told that the alternative was recklessly extravagant. But the irony is that the cost to future governments could be higher than the old system because the state has to underwrite these loans....
